Why did Quicken rename my Bank of America financial institution to zzz-Bank of America?

The name change occurred with my first one-step update following the upgrade to 27.1.66.18.

I saw the same sort of name change with my Fidelity account a while ago (fall of 2025) and it had to do with Fidelity's switch from Direct Connect to EWC+. However, Bank of America (along with Merrill Lynch which is owned by Bank of America) switched to EWC+ quite some time ago so that's not the issue in this case. The name change did not happen with Merrill Lynch.

Thanks Jim

    You need to re-authorize all accounts at BofA and Merrill due to a change at BofA

    We might never find out the reason for why these FI name changes are being made. But my guess (and it really is a guess) is that BofA made some system changes (either security, software and/or hardware) that requires changes to be made to how the aggregators (Intuit in the case of Quicken) are interfacing with them. And those changes might also have required there to be some changes in how the Quicken software interfaces with the new data stream.

    Hello @jralyea,

    Thank you for adding to this discussion.

    I am unsure what issue you are running into. After reviewing your connections internally, I am not seeing any errors from our end. Please provide more information as to what you are trying to do.

    • Are you trying to add Bank of America accounts to Quicken?
    • Are these online bills that you are trying to add?
    • When you attempt to add these, do you receive any errors?

    Additionally, screenshots of what you are seeing may be helpful. If needed, please refer to this Community FAQ for instructions on how to attach a screenshot. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop screenshots to your response if you are not given the option to add attachments.

    As far as billers go, among those you listed above, I can confirm that Valero and First Energy are not supported at this time. The rest you should be able to add. Let us know what is happening with these from your end.

    Looking forward to your response!

    @miklk, @Quicken Alyssa

    I performed the action shown in

    I dd this for my BoA accounts. That fixed the name issue.

    I did not do that for my ML accounts. Is that really necessary? There was no name change for ML and Merrill Lynch Investments is not listed amoung those BIDs affected.

    Thanks

    Jim

    @jdparker225,

    Thank you for following up and posing this question.

    No, Merrill Lynch is not in the list of affected BIDs, so no need to take any action on those.

    Thanks again!

    I followed the steps to deactivate, reauthorize (on BOA website), and set up my accounts online again in Quicken (link to existing accounts), but the "zzz-" still displays at the beginning of the "Bank of America - Quicken" financial institution name. My accounts are updating fine. Is this normal behavior?

    @bmyers33 That means you are still using the old FI name (Bank of America - Quicken), which they are eliminating. To migrate to the new one (Bank of America), you need to follow the steps outlined on the alert page linked below. My guess is that you didn't do step 4 (use the Tools > Add Account flow). That is where you can select the new FI name.
