What do you want to know about using Quicken for Mac 2016?
Hello All,
Our Quicken for Mac development team wants to answer your questions! The team will be putting together a video to answer some of the more common Quicken for Mac 2016 usage questions.
If you have a question about how to do something in Quicken 2016, post it here as an answer--if you see that your question has already been posted, vote up that answer, so the Mac team knows the top questions (they may not get to every question in this round).
If you have direct feedback for the product, rather than a usage question, please add that feedback here: https://www.quicken.com/mac/feedback rather than this thread.
Thanks, all!

I have been using Quicken since 1995 and currently have the most recent update of Q2007 for Mac. I understand that you will soon stop supporting it and that a new MacOS may soon make it unusable. But my entire financial history lives in this app and I want to know what to expect when I update to 2016 (or 2017):
Will the new version transfer my current data file without losing any of my historical info - accounts, transactions, categories, classes, securities, report customizations, etc? If not, what problems can I expect and are they solvable? Please tell me now - I hate surprises.
What will I immediately have to know about doing any things differently?
If I get 2016, will the imminent upgrade to 2017 be free? If you were me, would you wait for 2017?
Is there a printed manual as in the old days? Online tutorial for upgrading?
Thank you.0 -

The question to upgrade from QM2007 is a challenging one and there is no easy answer. I suggest that you make sure that Quicken 2016 for Mac will meet your needs, since it is not an upgrade from QM2007 but rather from Quicken Essentials (which was re-written from the ground up, starting in 2010), so there are some features that are still not there e.g. loan amortization, 2-line display, QuickMath, auto-backups, or are not as fully developed yet, e.g. Customized Reports, the FULL Bill Pay feature set, investment lot management (therefore some data may not carry over). You can start here:howlevmuso said:I have been using Quicken since 1995 and currently have the most recent update of Q2007 for Mac. Currently, the main advantages of QM2016 over QM2007 include the ability to sync with Quicken Mobile for mobile devices (iOS and Android) and the ability to save receipts with transactions via computer or mobile device. There are a few other minor features that QM2007 does not have. Also QM2016 has a more robust database structure less prone to corruption. Note that QM2016 is being supported until April 30, 2019, whereas it has been announced that security fixes will cease when QM2017 is released...see http://www.quicken.com/support/update-quicken-mac-2007-support-policies-may-2016 yet online access will continue as long as the FI/Bank supports it and their security updates don't prevent it.
Be aware of data that will and will not carry forward: http://knowledgebase.quicken.com/support/help/what-data-gets-carried-over/HOW24903.html
Then look at the updates since the original release here:
http://knowledgebase.quicken.com/support/help/quicken-2016-for-mac-release-notes/GEN87401.html
Also read some of the Fixes and Improvements that are being released soon here:
http://www.quicken.com/upcoming-product-fixes-and-improvements
You will also want to look at a more detailed comparison done by a SuperUser which also identifies nuances not mentioned elsewhere (and read on for comments from other users too on that same discussion thread) http://getsatisfaction.com/quickencommunity/topics/can-anyone-who-has-switched-from-2007-to-2015-hel...
Take a look at the following videos to give you a better idea:
https://www.youtube.com/user/QuickenMac
If QM2017 is released within 60 days of purchasing QM2016, the upgrade is free. Beyond that, you may have to argue your case.
There has not been a printed manual in years but upgrading is straight forward...simply open your data file with the new Quicken and data is converted into a new data file.
For more help, aside from the built-in Help in Quicken, there is no complete manual but the following should help.

I suddenly can't import the QFX file from any Regions Bank account. They download normally. When I try to import it shows the number of transactions window, then I get the message "Download unabailable! This FI is inactive, we cannot connect." I'm set up for web connect and it has worked fine up until the last week or so. I tried to find a way to disable the web connect and start the connection settings from the beginning but couldn't find a way to do that.0

I have been using for many years "Quicken for Mac 2004" and have just purchased a new Mac that uses the Mac OS X El Capitan version 10.11.6 software. Is it possible to run the 2004 software on my new Mac? Can my 2004 software be up graded to 2016 or must I purchase the 2016 and move all my old 2004 data into the 2016 software?0

I've been using Quicken for Mac 2007 and recently imported all my data into Quicken 2016. A lot of transactions were imported into the wrong account: for example, there's an inactive account for an old credit card that was replaced a year ago, and many of the transactions on my new card went into the old-card account. How do I move them into the right account without manually re-entering them one by one?0
-
To move transactions from one register to another, you can simply click and drag them from one to the other.Stephen Bloch said:I've been using Quicken for Mac 2007 and recently imported all my data into Quicken 2016. To move a range of them, simply single-click the first one, press the shift key while clicking the last one in the range. This will highlight the entire range. Then simply click and drag to move the entire range.
You can also Command-Click to add or remove single transactions to your selection.

Thanks! I don't know why it didn't occur to me to try that. It's a good, natural design. I have QM 2007 and have been using Quicken for the Mac since January 1993. I have a large number of accounts (43 active and 54 inactive) with 8 repeating transactions and 4 bank accounts and one investment account. I have tried moving to other Quicken products in the past (Quicken Essentials and Quicken for Windows, for example) but I was never able to get my data to transfer cleanly. The effort to clean-up the data always seemed to outweigh the benefits gained, especially when the LION version became available. Has the import feature in Quicken Mac 2016 been improved? Could I expect a reasonable result when I converted my data file? I purchased QM 2015 but have not yet tried it, as QM 2007 still works under El Capitan.0

It depends on what issues you ran into in the past. QM2016 has features that QM2015 does not. QM2016 also had Bill Pay via Direct Connect, 12-Month budgeting, ability to view investments as of a specific date (if you are looking for that).brucemenozzi said:I have QM 2007 and have been using Quicken for the Mac since January 1993. Is there a fix coming for Scheduled Checks? One-Time checks don't have this problem. Attempting to edit a scheduled check results in a false error of "You cannot print imported data" and the check information such as the address is locked and cannot be edited. PLEASE FIX THIS SOON. Since the error message isn't accurate I'm hoping it's just a simple program flag that is set wrong and can be fixed quickly.0

I have been manually putting in the transactions of 2015 in my check register. and backing it up, only to find out that after I have gotten to the November transactions, the information either gets "lost" or the date reverts to 2016 even if I have "last year" on the drop down bar.
