Quicken Premier Unable Pay CitiCards Using QuickPay???

Is there some reason I can't use Quicken QuickPay to pay CitiCards? Is this a temporary problem? It makes Quicken Premier less than useful for me.

    Hello @James Chimera,

To assist with this, please clarify. Is the Citi account you're wanting to send a payment to using QuickPay a Costco Anywhere Visa Card account? If it is, then according to this article, QuickPay should be supported (Note - Please make sure your Quicken is up to date. If it's not, you can manually install the most current update patch by clicking this link and following the instructions).

If it is not a Costco Anywhere Visa Card account, then Citi does not support QuickPay for the account at this time.

    I hope this helps!

I'm not a Citi customer, so I'm unfamiliar with the issue. Please elaborate. What did you try and what happened?

Also, what Q product are you running and what Release of that product? Do HELP, About Quicken for this info.

I added my 2 CitiCard accounts as billers. It shows both of them as "Check Pay". All of my other credit card accounts with other companies show QuickPay. I just upgraded to Quicken Premier yesterday. I'm running Quicken Premier version R59.35 Build 27.1.59.35

I did an online chat with Quicken this morning and all he could say was "sorry". Hard to believe that a huge credit card issuer like Citibank is not on Quicken's QuickPay unless I'm doing something wrong. Thanks for any help you can give me.

It's not Q's decision as to who accepts QuickPay … it's the vendor's decision.

Thanks. I'll contact Citi and express my displeasure and ask why they don't support QuickPay.

    Overview

You can now send electronic payments to select billers using a new, more reliable payment delivery method. Still named Quick Pay, this new way of making payments will ensure that payments arrive consistently at the biller in three business days.

Behind the scenes, payments are made using a technology that’s less susceptible to failures. Rather than making the payment on the biller’s website, which is sensitive to biller website outages or extra security measures like multi-factor authentication, we send the payment to a trusted network widely used by banks that offer bill pay services.

We will be extending this new payment reliability to even more billers in the future as our commitment to making Quicken Bill Manager a dependable and critical part of managing your finances.

We'd also like to hear from you. To provide feedback about this Bill Manager update, visit the Quicken Community post here.

Which billers use the new method?

We support this new electronic payment method for credit cards under the following billers:

    • Chase
    • Wells Fargo
    • Bank of America
    • Capital One
    • Citi (currently available for the Costco Anywhere Visa Card only)

Simply add these as Online Bills in your Bills & Income tab, and you'll see the Quick Pay option available.

What do I have to do?

If you are currently making payments to these billers via Check Pay, Quick Pay now gives you the option to expedite delivery and securely send your payments.

To start making electronic payments to these billers:

    1. Make sure your funding accounts are verified and enabled for both Quick Pay and Check Pay. To confirm, go to the Gear icon (settings) in the Bills & Income tab and select Payment Accounts. If you see a green check mark under both the Quick Pay and Check Pay columns, you're all set!
    2. Make sure you’ve added a supported biller as an  Online Bill in the Bills & Income dashboard.
    3. Click Quick Pay for the support biller and then verify your identity as the holder of your accounts.
    4. Provide a few one-time details for your biller, like your account number. This helps us locate your biller and process the payment.

This is what was posted with the Quicken Windows premiere update in early November.

It does not work. I have removed the biller from Online Bills, backed up, signed out, signed in as a different user (using the same account identity) and then added the Citi Costco Anywhere card to online bills and still, Quick Pay is not working.

I've also tried deactivating and reactivating, and that doesn't work either. How do I get this to work properly?

    Hello @mnem,

To assist with this issue, please provide more details. How is it not working? Is it not connecting at all? Is it connecting, but not showing Quick Pay as an option? Are you seeing any error messages?

I look forward to your reply!

I remove the Citi Costco Anywhere card from online billers, re-add it and activate it via the Citi site, as directed in the instructions from the November update. It connects to Citi, say it is connected and sends me back to Quicken. The payment method STILL say "check pay", not "Quick Pay" There are no error messages because there are no errors. What more detail do you want?

    Hello @mnem,

Thanks for providing more information. To clarify, are you verifying and enabling these accounts for Quick Pay from the Citi website?

    Let me know!

That is correct. I am verifying and enabling the only account that is possible, which is the Citi Costco Anywhere card. Any suggestions? I was going to cut and paste the instructions, but I am assuming that you already know that. Any suggestions?

I'm having the identical problem as mnem. I do steps 1 & 2 above but when I try to make a payment it only offers me CheckPay.

Thank you for your replies @mnem and @Pumphouse,

To clarify, what connection option are your Costco Anywhere Visa cards connected to in Quicken? Are you using the Costco Anywhere Visa connection option, or a different one?

If you're using a different connection option, which one are you using? (You can see this by going to Tools>Account List and looking in the Financial Institution column. If that column is not visible, click the Options dropdown in the lower left and select "Show financial institution").

When I check on our end, I'm not seeing any online biller connections with Citi at all. Which option are you using when attempting to connect the online biller? Are you using the Costco Citi Anywhere connection, or a different one?

If you're using a different one, which one are you using?

What is happening when you attempt to connect? Are you seeing any error messages, or does it seem to work, but then give no option for Quick Pay?

I look forward to your response!

I understand that of the Citi credit cards at this time QuickPay is available only for the Costco Anywhere Visa Card.

What is not clear to me: Can QuickPay be used with this card regardless of which Citi financial institution is used? I know this card can be set up for downloading with at least 3 different Citi financial institutions….Citibank, Citi Cards and Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi. So, can QuickPay be used with the Costo Anywhere Visa Card with only one of these financial institutions (and if so, with which one) or with any of them?

I tried to create an online bill by selecting 'Costco City Anywhere Visa Card' but it still offered me only checkpay. But the Tools→Account List shows the "City Cards" connection, probably what was originally set up for transaction download. (Transaction Download works fine)

  • mnem
    mnem Member ✭✭✭

Mine also says Citi Cards. Downloads also work fine. Whether I search for Citi or Costco Anywhere Visa, the choice always defaults to Citi Cards, so that doesn't appear to matter. I am NOT receiving any error messages at all. If I try to set up a "Costco Anywhere" card, it defaults, and it shows that the account is already connected. Still no ability to use "Quick Pay"

    Here's the answer to that

What I'm doing is exactly what the information page says. Always defaults to Citi Cards. Even if I add it from "Account List" (I usually use the + sign from the bill pay option and add online biller) it will list "Costco Anywhere Visa", but the financial institution always shows as Citi, and there is NO "Quick Pay" option either way.

What happens if you change the transaction download connection from Citi Cards to Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi and then try to set up the online biller with Costco Citi Anywhere Visa Card?

    Thank you for your reply,

I received confirmation from our teams that the supported connection option with Citi is Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi. Both the account and the online biller need to be connected using that option.

If you don't already have the account connected using that option, please backup your Quicken file, deactivate the account(s), then go to Tools>Add Account. Search for Costco, select the Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi option, and follow the prompts.

Make sure to carefully link the account(s) to the correct nickname in Quicken.

Warning: If you have other accounts (that aren't Costco Anywhere Visa accounts) with Citi that show up on the Add/Link screen, make sure they are set to "Don't add to Quicken". If they are set to add, you may end up with duplicate accounts and if they're set to link to the existing account, it will change the connection method to the Costco Anywhere Visa by Citi connection.

Once you have the account connected to the correct connection option, make sure to connect the Online biller to the correct option also.

Please let me know how it goes!

I tried these instructions and no luck. I changed the download connection to "Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi" and I still only get CheckPay when I try to pay. I even tried removing it it and re-adding as an online biller. I still only get CheckPay.

I suspect the problem is that "Financial Institution" is still set as "Citi Cards". Since that's a read only field in "Account Details" there is no obvious way to change that.

  • Pumphouse
Pumphouse Quicken Windows Subscription Member ✭✭✭

I tried again and had success. I removed the "online biller" (CheckPay) this time and then re-added Online Biller. Now it works and I did a test QuickPay. Now "Financial Institution" reflects the correct "Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi"..

Thank you so very much for getting this problem solved. Incredible confusion with wording in the ORIGINAL update instructions. Further, I had to REMOVE the online biller from the "bills" section, DEACTIVATE the Costco account, ADD the account via TOOLS>ACCOUNTS, and then, when it still didn't work, add the bill from the BILLS section. NOW IT WORKS!

  • Pumphouse
Pumphouse Quicken Windows Subscription Member ✭✭✭

Well, maybe it isn't solved for me. My test QuickPay to "Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi" ended up erroring out after the payment was withdrawn from my checking account. "Unspecified error". The transaction was rolled back OK so no harm done.

I'll try another. If that doesn't work, I'll contact Support.

Thank you for the follow-up @mnem,

I'm glad to hear you were finally able to get it to work. Thank you for sharing the steps you used to get it working!

    @Pumphouse,

I'm sorry to hear that the test payment didn't go through. If possible, could you please provide a screenshot of the error message you saw? If needed, please refer to this Community FAQ for instructions on how to attach a screenshot. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop screenshots to your response if you are not given the option to add attachments.

    Thank you!

The error popped up in a window when Quicken launched. If it happens again, I'll screenshot it.
