Quicken Holds your data HOSTAGE!!
When your subscription to "Quicken Classic" runs out they pull the classic "Pay to Play".
When I purchased my subscription to access "My data" on "My computer" it was because of an update to my Quicken 2017. The tech person didn't give me a work around she gave me a sales pitch. I was told I would get 50% off and I could have the Quicken software do all these great things.
I did not want it to access my bank accounts or credit card account and retrieve my bills. I wanted to access the the file on my computer and that was it. "No worries" she said, "When the subscriptions run out everything on your computer will work". That was a LIE! My subscription ran out. I called tech support and received NO help. I got a sales pitch from a heavily accented person who said "There is nothing I can do, but, I can offer you 50% off a new subscription…."

Hello @Ken Benthien,
I can see that you held the Deluxe Quicken Subscription, which means that after your subscription expires, you will have full access to and ownership of your data. You can view, edit, export, and manually enter transactions and accounts, even after your subscription ends. As always, your Quicken data is stored on your local computer. You can read more regarding our Data Access Guarantee through this link.
I did take the time to review your interactions with Quicken Support, I can see that you were escalated to a Supervisor and they did advise you that this will occur once your subscription has ended. Once the subscription has ended, you will also have a pop-up banner within your Quicken that encourages you to renew your subscription, this can not be removed without having an active subscription.
I do also see that they offered you 50% off of your new subscription as well for the frustration that you experienced. I believe that our Support team offered you to purchase a subscription, as Quicken 2017 (and any older versions) are not supported therefore we are unable to offer assistance.
I hope this clears things up!
Have a wonderful day!

The original post in this thread contains multilple statements that are simply UNTRUE.
When one's subscription expires, you STILL have access to all of your data … it is NOT "held hostage". You can read it and report on it. You just can't download any more data to the file. And a renew message (frequently called a "nag message") takes up about 1/4 to 1/3 of your Q screen … but your access to your data on your computer isn't in any way compromised.

[Removed - Disruptive] I do not have access to my data. Yes there is a banner. I am not allowed to print and the months of February to November are not shown in the register. Not even from a back up file.

Hello @Ken Benthien,
Would you mind sharing screenshots of what you see when attempting to print your register and access your transactions? Were transactions from these months previously there before your subscription ended?
If needed, please refer to this Community FAQ for instructions on how to attach a screenshot. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop screenshots to your response if you are not given the option to add attachments. Please remember to redact any personal information as needed.
Thanks!

@Ken Benthien I understand your frustration, but please understand that the people replying here — fellow Quicken users and the Quicken moderators — are trying to help you. 😀 We're not Quicken management, so we can't address your rants about Quicken's policies for lapsed subscriptions. But we can attest to the fact that you can continue to access your Quicken data after your subscription ends, and we can try to help you get to that state.
From the second screen shot you posted, I think I see what the issue may be. It seems you at some point downloaded a program patch or update after your subscription expired. So the program is basically telling you that you are trying to use a version from past the end of your subscription. But it provides a link which will help you re-install the latest version as of the time your subscription expired. At that point, it will operate as @NotACPA and @Quicken Jasmine have described: you'll see the "nag" banner at the top and on the right side, but you will otherwise be able to continue to use Quicken in all ways except downloading data: you can create and print reports, enter data manually, etc.

I don't see any response that directly addresses the screenshots shown in this post so I will.
The first image is basically "normal". If you have let your subscription lapse you will get a notice/ad to resubscribe.
The second image is telling you that your copy of Quicken has been updated to a version past the date that your subscription expired. You can't run in this situation. Your copy of Quicken has to be running a version before your subscription expired. This can happen when either you update Quicken or it happens automatically (Quicken shouldn't do this, but it has been reported to do it at times).
You need to "rollback" your version of Quicken.

I did address this in my December 9 post above. We haven't heard back from the original poster in two days, so we don't know if he's been able to roll back and get up and running.
