Why don't reports work?

Member ✭✭
edited February 22 in Reports (Windows)

Quicken Classic Deluxe (vR60.20, Build 27.1.60.320) on Win11.

I am having issues displaying reports after customization. I have a Saved Report that I created for taxes and it is saved with the custom dates of 1/1/23-12/31/23. It opens fine from the Report & Graphs dialog but when I customize it (change dates) and click OK the report doesn't display. This also happens with other Saved Reports as well as creating a new report from the default categories of Banking, Spending, Comparison, Investing and Tax. Any ideas hopw to fix.

    Hello @rsugelsr,

We apologize for any frustration this issue may be causing!

When did you first notice this issue started? Did anything significant happen before the first time you noticed it (e.g.: installed a new update, ran One Step Update, etc)? Also, to clarify— after customizing, when you say "it doesn't display", do you mean nothing changes from what it previously displayed, or the report becomes blank? It may also be helpful if you could provide screenshots of what you are seeing. If needed, please refer to this Community FAQ for instructions on how to attach a screenshot. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop screenshots to your response if you are not given the option to add attachments.

Last, can you please tell us the location of where your data file is stored? Is it in a folder located on your computer hard drive (C: drive), or in a cloud-based/external drive (e.g.: OneDrive, DropBox, USB, etc)?

Check back and let us know! Thank you.

    Hello @rsugelsr,

This could be an issue with your data file due to what you described and what appears (or doesn't) in your screenshots. I invite you to review the instructions below. It is recommended to save a backup before proceeding.

    Validate:

    1. File
    2. Validate and Repair File...
    3. Validate File
    4. Click OK
    5. Close the Data Log
    6. Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
    7. Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

If the issue persists, proceed to Super Validate. If the issue is resolved after performing validation, then please disregard the instructions to Super Validate.

    Super Validate:

    1. File
    2. Hold CTRL + Shift and click Validate and Repair File...
    3. Super Validate File
    4. Click OK
    5. Close the Data Log
    6. Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
    7. Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

Let me know how it goes!

Nope, these steps had no effect. iF I try to "Show Report" after changing the date range of a Saved or Standard report in the Reports and Graphs dialog, I get nothing (by nothing I mean a report window doesn't even open). When I open a Saved or Standard report from the Reports and Graphs dialog and then customize it (change date range, accounts, categories, etc.) the same thing happens, no report window. In addition to the steps outlined above I tried uninstalling, downloading a fresh copy of Quicken Classic Deluxe and reinstalling it with no effect. No idea where to go next, if I have to total my 2024 tax info by hand it's going to suck.

    Hello @rsugelsr,

Creating a copy of your data file is a good troubleshooting option. However, have you tried restoring from a backup that was created before this issue began?

    Let me know!

I don't have backups that go back that far. I was able to customize the Cash Flow Standard Report to give me the info I need for this years taxes. I've been using Quicken since my first computer a Tandy 1000. I've got 30 years of data and haven't figured out how to keep my working file manageable.

Have you tried going to Reports > My Saved Reports and Graphs to open the saved report rather than using the Reports and Graphs Center?

I hadn't but just did with the same results.

Go to Edit > Preferences > Early Access > make sure the 2 boxes there are unchecked. For me, when those boxes are checked it is not uncommon for me to encounter issues with reports, especially with customized saved reports. When I uncheck them the correct reports functionality is restored.

Sometimes unchecking these boxes will not fix previously saved reports in which case I need to pull a new default reports and then customize and save them over the corrupted saved reports.

Thanks, they were unchecked already and until you pointed them out, didn't know these settings existed.

Just curious, did the last suggestion resolve your problem, since the last post was made 13 days ago ?

  • Member ✭✭

No, the Early Access settings had been unchecked while still having the problem. A couple weeks ago I was able to customize the Cash Flow Standard Report to give me the info I need for this years taxes.  That solves the issue for now but I should be able to customize any of the reports, Standard or Customized.

It occasionally (not often) happens where saved customized reports get corrupted and they cannot be changed and/or if they can be changed the changes will not be saved. For me it has happened only after updating the version of Quicken but this is not an issue with most version updates.

It most commonly happens with reports that are saved to a Folder in My Saved Reports. I have since stopped using Folders in My Saved Reports because of the issues encountered.

The only fix to this issue that I have found is to pull up new default reports, customize them and then save them to My Saved Reports. I usually save them directly over the reports that are already saved there.

Thank you. I've never used folders in My Saved Reports, I don't have that many (yearly taxes, xmas spending, etc.).

Just to clarify: I was not saying that this issue only happens with reports saved in folders. I was simply saying that this seems to happen more frequently when they are in folders. It most definitely happens with saved reports that are not in folders, too.
