R40.13 reintroduces investment transaction sort order bug.
"Security transactions from the same day now appear in alphabetical order."
https://community.quicken.com/discussion/7909597/r39-17-investment-register-formatting-missing-info-messed-up-the-two-line-mode
In R39.23 they took it out and so things were working correctly.
Now it is back in R40.13 with the same bad results!

Yes, I didn't check but if I scroll back I have many entries with that same display bug that was previously fixed.0

Yep, the bug is back. Whatever Quicken staff thinks "Security transactions from the same day now appear in alphabetical order" is supposed to do, it breaks investing registers pretty badly. I recently paid my 2021 income tax and 2022 first estimated tax. Look how this appears in my two-line register. 2 transactions duplicated and 2 transactions show in one line instead of two. (The first of each triplet is a different transaction. The 2nd & 3rd of each triplet are duplicates of each other.)I hope staff will consider reverting this code back to the previous version which worked fine.

Hopefully this is just a "merge error" and they will remove it again.
Sorting alphabetically is just plain wrong. The fact that it messes up the 2-line display mode is just more reason it shouldn't have been put in place.

I'm running R40.13 and I don't have any dups or odd things going on in my investment accounts. Is it my clean living that allows me to not have this issue.
Here are my Investment Transactions preferences:
and a screen shot of a register:
First time thru OSU, I got transactions from Chase and Edward Jones, 9 flashes using Chare and 18 or 19 during EJ. A second OSU only had the flashes during the EJ part (19 flashes).-splasher using Q continuously since 1996

Hello All,
Thank you for alerting us about this issue resurfacing.
I've informed the proper channels of this and we have requested to have the ticket for this bug reopened. Unfortunately, we won't have an ETA on this.
Apologies for any inconvenience in the meantime! Thank you.

@splasher it isn't your clean living , it is the fact that you don't have different security actions types on the same day.
On the flashing, that is definitely a new bug introduced, here one of the threads on that:

R40.21 fixes the two-line display problem in investment accounts, but is still sorting by the action type, instead of the order entered. This is wrong because in an investment register the order that transactions are entered can affect the results.Signature:

Anyone who trades options will find this sorting confusing to look at after the fact. The sorting is by date, action, then security. Buys come before the dividends used to make a purchase. A day trade of a vertical spread would see the buy, cover short, short sell, then sell. (with dividends received the same day put in between) There needs to be a preference setting to allow to display in the order the transactions were entered for a given date.1

I have yet to see an explanation from Quicken why they think this new transaction sort is beneficial. It is clearly wrong.

I too do not like this sorting. I do several transactions in a single day, and need the transactions the way I enter them. Else the running balances are wrong for beginning and end of day. for one acct, I want Xln to be in first of the day and Xout and the end of the day. With all kinds of buys/sells/shtsell/cvrshort in between. The sort with Xln/Xout at end of day is incorrect.0

from R40.13 - it's not a bug... it's a New and Improved Feature -
What’s Improved
Security transactions from the same day now appear in alphabetical order

Because this design flaw was intentional, I've created an Idea to back it out.

How about just reverting back to the preferred sort by time and then figure out how to add an option for alphabetically sorting transactions? Or save yourselves a lot of time and forget about alphabetical sorting as it has no apparent use.0

This is now fixed in Quicken Windows US R41.9, see this post:
