@Jim_Harman apologies for teh typo, it should have read "get a bead" on the mutual funds. I would really lie to know why the quote service provider does not recognize these; especially when they are from major financial institutions.
Great idea and much thanks for summarizing the issues and sending it in via Report a Problem.
Stay tuned, I am about to start testing what broke the report.

If you search this forum for "Canada mutual fund quotes" (without the quotation marks) you will see that there are many reports of issues with quotes for these funds, but no resolution. Note Quicken Canada uses a different quote provider than the US version, make sure they know that is what you are running.
I think your only recourse would be to contact Quicken Support and see if you get their attention. Don't hold your breath.

@Jim_Harman there were two things causing problems:
i) I had — I know longer do — a stock called Loblaws whose symbol is L; this cause teh report to fail.
ii) I had — I know longer do — two mutual funds that have since been purchased by another company and the symbols have changed. This causes the report to fail in that the resulting report reads that the problems is Loblaws. This is very strange, its actually reports the problem as an entirely different holding and does so twice, for teh same wrong security!
I hope this helps.
Should there be anything else please ask!

@Jim_Harman appreciate the advice and added information, seems I am not alone.
I thought about it but will leave it alone for now. I have two issues in front of Quicken (printer scaling and unrecognized amounts appearing in the dashboard but not the P/L report) which are more important issues for me. When I get those resolved, I may come back to this but for the time being there are only 5 mutual funds that are not updating on a daily basis so it is not a material issue, I can always go online and look at my statement. Will eventually get there though, hoping the Quicken people don't get upset with me given the number of nits I keep finding. :)

@Jim_Harman I did search per your above post. I note that most of this posts are quite old (i.e., 2017 to 2019). It is a shame that this has not been fixed during the intervening +/- 5 years..

@Chris_QPW I don't see any such info in my Cloud Sevices Log. Only info I see is of the form:
Possibly because I am running R48.8? Nor do I see any indication about security quotes in the OFX logs or Cloud Sync logs.################### Thursday, February 15, 2024, 10:09:58 #####################

@Jim_Harman I really appreciate the work you have done on this long-standing issue. Many thanks — and a few hopefully constructive comments.
I have for a long time put forth my understanding that there are 3 criteria for the downloaded quotes process:
- The security has to have Download Quotes checked in the Security List (Ctrl-Y),
- The security has to have a valid ticker, and
- Shares of the security have to be owned in an account in Quicken OR the security needs to be in the file's Watch List
I had never attempted to correlate the count of security quotes attempted (the Y of the "X of Y quotes … updated") against the number suggested by my 3-part criteria. You have now clarified that Quicken will send out only non-blank tickers as part of that "Y" count as it filters out any blank tickers. Very reasonable on the programmers part but I see the possible confusion.
With respect to your 7 point workaround, I suppose I see that more as a debugging tool, rather than a workaround (semantics).
3. If any securities have valid 1-letter ticker symbols, temporarily un-check the Download Quotes box. Examples are T for AT&T, F for Ford, K for Kellogg, and Z for Zillow. These securities download OK but break the unsuccessful quotes report, hiding any other problems.
In my case, I found I need to change the ticker to something other than a single character. Obviously, that then had to be a ticker not valid for a different security this I also had to uncheck the download quotes box. I found I had 11 single character tickers (A, C, E, F, J, L, M, P, S, T, and V). I currently owned only 2 of those, but all were checked to Download Quotes. I had up to three unresponsive tickers and the "See a Report" link kept showing the A as the problematic security.
As I worked through changing the ticker (A became Axxxxx) and re-downloading quotes, the See a Report response pointed to a different single character security. After the fifth change (not an alphabetic progression), I was able to finally identify the real problematic security tickers. The one I hade been missing for years now was a security I owned for a short period back in 1991 that had gone bankrupt or been acquired sometime later. After clearing that ticker problem, I reverted as needed back to the single character tickers (Axxxxx back to A, for example), and all is good now. If my case is relevant, your point 7 would be to redo the ticker and the check the Download Quotes
(As a correction to your point that I just quoted, K is the ticker for Kellanova, not Kellogg)
4. You should also un-check the Download Quotes box for all money market funds (tickers ending in XX) The share price is always $1.00, so updates are not necessary, and I have sometimes seen the price download as 0, which of course causes problems.
I don't dispute that wisdom as an overall policy, but I have not seen any indication that MM funds are any different than other securities with respect to this discussion. I lean toward a belief that if the MM fund ticker works through the Add a Security button and form, it should not cause an "X of Y quotes … updated" issue being discussed here.
Thanks again for your efforts on this.

As discussed here
it is not uncommon for money market fund prices to download as zero. I have experienced it myself, and several other users have as well over the years. The Help referenced in the discussion above says money market fund quotes are not downloaded. That is not true; usually they download as $1.00 but sometimes as $0.00. Thus my advice to disable quote downloading for them. Though it is not strictly related to the report of bad quotes discussed here, I think it is a good practice, just like un-checking the Download Quotes box for securities with blank tickers.
Recently and maybe still, if Real Time Quotes was enabled, securities with blank tickers and Download Quotes checked would get the price for the first security alphabetically in your list, often AAPL. This caused quite a lot of confusion as you might imagine.

@Jim_Harman If by XX you mean ending in digits then:
- I have these download as $0.00
- I have had these not download at all (when the symbiol is not recognized) and contribute to the X of Y problem we are discussing here.
The advice you provide to uncheck these is therefore correct and wise IMHO and recent experience.
I hope this helps.0 -
To clarify, in the US, the tickers for money market funds end in "XX", as in VMFXX for Vanguard Federal Money Market.

I did some research and it appears that in Canada money market funds end in either XXX or XXXX where XXXX are digits / numbers (i.e., DYN6000).
