No EOY Archive for MAC - PLEASE ADD IT

Hello: My Quicken data file is 450MB. That is huge but on the MAC Quickent doesn't have a EOY archive option. I called Tech Support and they told me how to create a new file and delete the data I want to archive, etc. Yet, due to the split transations being a "child" of another, and having over 26,000 transactions, it was impossible to do. This is a feature that should be on a mac.
Wonder if anyone has dealt with this.
I wonder if even Quicken will see this and care …. thinking of leaving Quicken after so many years —- just because of this.

Hello @rvgonzalez,
I completely understand your frustration, and I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. While Quicken for Mac does not currently have an End-of-Year (EOY) Archive feature like the Windows version.
Since this feature is not yet available, I highly recommend creating an Idea Post in the Product Ideas section of the Quicken Community. This allows other users to vote on it, and the more support it gains, the more likely it is that the development team will consider adding it in a future update.
Thanks!

Look forward to your Idea Post for voting, @rvgonzalez
But, I do have a few questions based on what you reported… Most of your file size is no doubt due to attachments, which should have no impact on the speed of your file. Is there some reason that your file size bothers you? You can always stop attaching documents to your file… or even delete all of the attachments (or move them elsewhere).
If you're mad enough to think of moving to other software, then of course you would have the exact same result if you just start your Quickien file over from scratch as of the same date of other software. So, I'm not sure what benefit you'd have other than being made at Quicken and depriving them of the small amount of revenue you give them each year? So, you could simply start a fresh Quicken file each January 1 using your Dec 31 balances if a tiny file is your goal. But, yes, if Quicken could do that for you automatically - presumably your idea/wish - that would be way easier.

I'm not sure why it's being recommended to @rvgonzalez to create a new Idea post for this functionality? @Quicken Jasmine @MontanaKarl
There was one Idea post from 2016, "Year end copy for Quicken for Mac", which had amassed 140 votes, but the developers marked it as "Not Planned: This is not on the roadmap for future implementation" and it was archived so most users here can't see it.
There is another Idea post from 2018, "Add "Save a Copy" feature (similar to "Year End Copy")", which is still active in the Product Ideas > Ideas for Mac Classic > Product Enhancements category. Implementation of this idea, I believe, would achieve the result @rvgonzalez is looking for. This Idea is marked as "Under Consideration", which means the developers have looked at it and neither rejected it nor assigned it a time for implementation on their development calendar. So doesn't it make sense for @rvgonzalez to add a vote and comment to that thread, rather than starting a new one? Or is there some difference I'm missing? (For some reason, this Idea thread has lost its vote counter today, but I've reported it to a moderator and assume that will be rectified shortly.)

I appreciate your insight and the background on previous Idea posts related to this functionality. The reason I recommended that @rvgonzalez create a new Idea post is that the previous requests have either been archived or do not specifically address the full need as described in their post.
While the 2016 Idea gathered significant support, it was marked as "Not Planned" and archived, meaning it is no longer an active feature request that can gain traction. As for the Idea regarding a "Save a Copy" feature, while similar, it is not necessarily identical to an End-of-Year (EOY) Archive function. If the existing Idea does fully align with what @rvgonzalez is looking for, then adding a vote and comment there is a great approach. However, if there are additional details or refinements needed—such as a dedicated EOY Archive process that mirrors the Windows version—then a fresh Idea post would help distinguish the request and ensure it reflects exactly what users are asking for.
Ultimately, the goal is to ensure that feedback is clear, visible, and actionable for the development team. If a new post better captures the specific need, then it’s worth submitting. Otherwise, I agree that reinforcing an existing request is always beneficial.
Thanks!

Thanks, @jacobs - Yes, that old 2018 wish/idea seems to include what is asked for here. And, bad memory that i have, I had already voted for it. It's a very flexible idea:

I don't know why my post got removed. I posted the same link that @MontanaKarl just posted.
Note I'm not a SuperUser so it is impossible for me to post URLs to archived posts.

There was an issue with a moderator trying to clean things up between the various posts, and it temporarily messed up the status of the Idea posts — and probably yours, too @Chris_QPW. Things got cleaned up, so to recap for anyone reading this thread:
- There was an Idea post from 2016, "Year end copy for Quicken for Mac", which had amassed 140 votes, but a few years ago, the developers marked it as "Not Planned: This is not on the roadmap for future implementation" and it was Archived, so most users here can no longer see it. (There's no sense in me posting the URL here, since most people are blocked from seeing Archived threads.)
- There is the Idea post from 2018, "Add "Save a Copy" feature (similar to "Year End Copy")", which is still active in the Product Ideas section. It has garnered 133 votes to date, and has a status of "Under Consideration", which means the developers have looked at it and neither rejected it nor approved it for future development and assigned it a time for implementation on their calendar.
- There is this thread started by @rvgonzalez today, seeing an and of year archive feature in Quicken Mac. The product manager and developers do not read the discussions on this part of the community forum, so they will not see this topic. They will periodically read some of the Idea threads, which is why the moderator suggested posting a new Idea there.
It's not clear why the developers rejected the original "Year end copy" feature request, but haven't (at least yet) rejected the second one. It could be that a few years ago they had so many other features on their planning list that they just said it's "not on the roadmap" because the roadmap didn't extend far enough into the future. It could be because they didn't see the reasons beyond "I always did it this way in the past with an older version" which I think users have articulated well in the newer Idea thread. We'll likely never know. All we know is that, for now, the 2018 "Save a Copy" idea remains alive.
I think several of us, having read the 2018 Idea thread, think it encompasses the functionality @rvgonzalez is seeking, so adding a vote and a comment in that thread is encouraged. But anyone seeking functionality which isn't embodied in that request should create a new Idea topic and spell out what functionality you're seeing.
Be aware that the process of a new Idea topic amassing enough votes from fellow Quicken users here to be forwarded to the developers, then for the developers to evaluate the idea/accept it/put it on their future schedule, and then for the developers to design, code and test a new feature —is usually quite slow. Anyone suggesting an Idea and expecting to see it before their current subscription runs out is unlikely to get such an outcome (unless it happens to be a feature the developers are already working on or have on their short-term schedule). But the developers do listen to user requests; it's just that they have so many of them and can only deliver a small quantity per year that makes the process feel frustrating.
