    9/21: 3rd day in a row can't open Quicken.
    Any ideas yet?

    AVG sending same message:

    Says contact software vendor
    Exception:
    System.Exception: Failed to start image manager
    at EO.Internal.vpsi.wxpi.hiva()
    at EO.Internal.vpsi.wxpi.mccq()
  • For Avast, try the above disable of the Anti-Exploit Shield described by davekazoo
    There's a similar option available in AVG (I haven't tried, but probably works):
    Menu->Settings->Basic Protection->Detections->Malware - uncheck Enable Anti-Exploit Shield
  • BTW - based on some postings to the AVG/Avast technical support forum, they are aware of the issue and claim to be working on it

    Avast updates their definitions multiple times each day. Not sure about AVG but I suspect they use the same definitions, since they’re one company.

    When I open the file & I got runtime exception error message. From Window explorer, I found the QDF file was much shorter than it suppose to be, .SyncLog & .OFXLOG files are also disappear. So I copy backup .QDF .SyncLog & .OFXLOG files from secondary storage & paste them to replace the damaged file. It turns out that the damaged was intact & the 3 backup files also disappear from secondary storage. Does anyone know how to solve this?
  • I just updated Quicken to 43.32 Build 27.1.43.32 and the problem still exists. Then I saw there was a newer version of AVG available so I installed that too. AVG Ver.22.9.3254 - Build 22.9.7554.439 with virus definitions 220921-4.

    I was hoping these two updates would fix the problem, but no such luck. The Runtime Exceptions still occur when starting Quicken.

    Has this been fixed yet? I have exactly the same problem.

    Are you saving manual backups to the default "backup" directory? I had backups disappear for no apparent reason until I was told by someone in this forum that the "backup" directory is only for automatic backups (e.g., those generated when updates are available). The problem disappeared once I saved my manual backups to another directory (I used backup_manual).
  • Still a problem here. I use AVG and I did what CambellSteve did. It did nothing to solve the problem. The only way I can solve it is to turn AVG off while I use Quicken. I tried adding exceptions to AVG to ignore Quicken, but that did nothing either.
  • I cant even report the problem Jared. The whole program shuts down. Says there is a dll issue i am seeing the same issue as everyone else

    Same problem for me. I use AVG antivirus on Windows 10 and receive following popup followed by a long string which I will forward to support.:

    Exception:
    System.Exception: Failed to start image manager
    at EO.Internal.vpsi.wxpi.hiva()
    at EO.Internal.vpsi.wxpi.mccq()
  • I just spent 2.2 hrs on the phone with quicken regarding run time error. First he said it was antivirus software blocking them he said drivers were missing. He tried to help and was very patient but nothing was fixed. I had issue opening quicken and run time errors with quicken on 2 different computers one with avg virus and one with avast. It’s a quicken problem not my computers!

    Still receiving the runtime error even after installing the latest update to Avast Antivirus.  Pausing Avast fixes the problem, but not a good workaround every time I start Quicken.  The runtime error popup is a distraction, but Quicken still opens and runs normally, so to me it is just irritation but not a big deal.  Since there is no runtime error when Avast is disabled, seems to me it is more of an Avast (or AVG) problem than a Quicken problem.

    The problem was briefly fixed yesterday until Avast rolled out a new version.
    The issue is with Avast and Anti-Exploit.
    You can see what is going on with Avast and this issue be checking out the Avast forum.
    https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=321202.15
    Contacting Quicken will not help unless they can directly work with Avast.
    FYI: AVG is owned by Avast!

    Have you submitted a suspected False Positive Form to Avast using this: https://www.avast.com/false-positive-file-form.php

    Enable Exploit detection: enables Avast to detect and block attempts to run malicious threats or processes in the memory from exploiting vulnerable applications on your PC. Unticking this option may result in potential compatibility issues that can cause system crashes. This option enables the Anti-exploit Shield.

    This works with AVG too. I will probably turn it back on, and deal with having to dismiss the Runtime Exception window each time I start Quicken as this appears to be a "false-positive".
  • Suspected "false positives" can be reported to AVG using this link:

    https://www.avg.com/en-us/false-positive-file-form#pc

    If enough people report it, they might move faster...

    I have been having the same scenario: AVG detects the malware and secures it; Quicken "crashes"; close the program; restart; exception notice appears; clear the exception notice; program appears to run fine. The AVG does not detect the malware upon every startup or every day but exception always showed up; I cleared it and the program ran. This morning, when I started Quicken, there was no malware detection and the exception window did not appear. Program appeared to run fine. Closed Quicken; waited a few minutes; restarted Quicken; no notices and appears to still running OK. Has the problem mysteriously been fixed or is this a "false positive"?
  • Quicken just updated early this morning (Thurs 22 Sep), and seems to have solved the problem.
  • The "fixed" version of Quicken (on my Windows 10 computer) is Version R43.32 Build 27.143.32.

    My version is still 43.26, Build 27.1.43.26. I did not update it. Since my post at 5:43, I have run Quicken through the "normal bill paying routine" without a glitch. Quicken must have performed some kind of repair that took affect even without "updating".

    AVG and AVAST are the same company and may use the same virus definitions (just guessing). Suggest that you update your program engine and virus definitions and see if that works.

    I've been following this thread for days. I believe that this is a "false positive" since subsequent full depth scans do not pick up any viruses or malware. Judging from the posts in this thread, this issue is restricted to ONLY AVAST and AVG AV programs, so this is not a Quicken issue.
