jimshu1 said: Or we don't pay them... Our choice. It's Quicken's choice too. I belong to dozens of forums, why is this one the only one to not let you unsubscribe to a thread?
It's 2024 and this is still not part of the functionality. Either Quicken isn't making the demand of Vanilla, or Vanilla isn't interested.
After typing that, I Googled "Vanilla forums" and that's the answer. Vanilla's own threads on their own websites are outdated from a UX perspective. Sounds like it's time for Quicken to consider a new vendor.
Given the declining popularity of old-style forums in general, "a new vendor" would probably wind up being Discord which would be much worse than Vanilla IMO.
Every time Quicken has switched platforms for the forums, it seems there are some steps forward but also some steps backward. Just as Quicken may be the best-featured-yet-imperfect personal finance software, I suspect that any alternative forums software will come with its own set of shortcomings/flaws; if there were one perfect one, everyone would be using it! And the amount of time and work that needs to go into porting decades of content to a new platform, and then discovering what content is lost or mangled in the transition is probably not worth it. (I still routinely run into posts, particularly Idea posts, with links to images from the old GetSat site which were forever lost.)
MODERATORS: So going back to the original goal, my question of The Powers That Be at Quicken is whether you have pushed Vanilla to build in such a feature. It's not some esoteric thing specific to the Quicken forums; I'm sure their other users would welcome the ability to enable such a feature. This obviously isn't a problem the moderators deal with, since they need to read everything, but it's a massive Pain [Edited - Language] for us users to not be able to unfollow a thread where we made one quick comment but don't want to see every reply for the next 6 months. Can we ask whether this has been pursued with Vanilla, and if not, could it be?
