Quicken for Mac 2017 v4.5, 4.5.1, 4.5.2 & 4.5.3 Released

And, I would add... Knowing there's been 4 versions, to date, of 4.5.x and each one has had its issues, I now don't want to update my 4.4.3 until I read 4.5.x is working without the level and range of feature-related issues currently being experienced.Robert B said:Week three, day three, since the 4.5 debut. Still no offer to update. How much longer to the public release?

That kind of split is quite common with the sale/purchase of property. Should not be a surprise. I have other scenarios that can get even more elaborate than that; not frequent, but enough to need good support for it. Glad to see QMac seems to finally handle this with ease, like it used to.mistertheplague said:The new feature to adjust the transaction total to the sum of the current split values is a nice upgrade. Especially handy for entering long splits, as well as for going back into a split to add a new value. Very easy to delete the remainder split line and have the total update. Good job.

@smayer97 & @pbGuy: The opt-in approach you suggest is there, as it is with every other software product: clicking the button to download and install an upgrade. It's an affirmative step for each user -- and you do not have to do it! With every macOS or iOS release, I *never* upgrade on the first few days, in case there's a major problem (of which there have been a number over the years). With Quicken, simply ignore the update message the first time you see it if you want to be protected from the potential of a buggy release. Just wait a few days and check this website to see what reports there are from early adopters.Mike Molloy said:Has 4.5x been released to everyone? Actually, with Quicken Windows you used to be able to NOT accept to download an update.Mike Molloy said:Has 4.5x been released to everyone? I still have 4.4.3 and haven't been offered an update.
Now, when I do a One Step Update Quicken will prompt me that a update is available and do I want to install it? So, I refuse.
However, at the next startup of Quicken Windows, the update automatically installs without any query or warning. It just installs whether you like it or not.
So...no, it's not an affirmative step any more for Windows users.0 -
I was just notified to download the latest release of Quicken for Mac. I performed the download and am now on release 4.5.4
In my previous use I go to the All Transactions view with the filter set to "Not Reviewed" to see my not reviewed transactions. In this new release this filter does not seem to work as I now continue to see all transactions both reviewed and not reviewed.
Thanks for any help you can offer.0 -
@jacobs: Just so you know... I've been using Mac software for over 20 years. I've been using Quicken software for about 10 years. Your comments, nonetheless, were simply patronizing. Stating the obvious, about upgrading, provides no real insights to the attempted discussion about early adoption of QM17 updates experiencing user issues.Mike Molloy said:Has 4.5x been released to everyone? @jacobs the "opt-in" you are talking about is NOT the same thing...because again there is no visibility to the partial release nature of updates and their intentions, as many users encounter when they try to update one computer only to be unable to update another.Mike Molloy said:Has 4.5x been released to everyone? @Marcus Quicken has been using this approach for some time now for QMac. This is not the first time there have been many bugs in an update with one or more rapid-fire updates, though it may have been a while since you have had this many (obviously due to the size of this update).
Anyway, not trying to belabour the point.Have Questions? Help Guide for Quicken for Mac

4.5.4 won't allow me to set the payment date for a loan account. To be more accurate - it won't actually show up in the register on my selected date; it will only show up on today's date (and in the future based on selected periodicity from today's date). I tried to convert back to a liability and then back to a loan, but that was even worse. It remembered my settings, but wouldn't allow me to click "finish" in the loan terms setup.0

@pbGuy: I'm sorry you saw my comments as patronizing; they weren't intended to be. All I'm saying is that *all* software releases come with potential risks to first adopters, and I find it's wiser not to click "update" the moment a software developer releases anything new, whether it's Apple, Adobe, Microsoft or Quicken. Quicken for Mac is easy enough to decline to upgrade for a few days to see which way the winds are blowing before deciding to download and install the upgrade.Mike Molloy said:Has 4.5x been released to everyone? I just installed v. 4.5.4. Now when entering transactions, the category gets truncated such as, "Taxes: Sales Tax" gets truncated to Sales Tax; or "Food: Groceries" gets truncated to "Groceries". Or, "Clothing: my name" gets truncated to only "My Name" with no idea it has to do with clothing.
Will 4.5.5 correct that?0 -
Under preferences you can make the category name long or short. Under 4.5.2 that still works. Try that.Maui Kane said:I just installed v. 4.5.4. @Quicken Marcus why do preferences get changed by an update?Maui Kane said:I just installed v. 4.5.4. Bugs in 4.5.4 regarding changing a line item date in a check register and creating a payee in a check register. To illustrate here is the line item in the check register:
When I click on the day number it turns blue, OK, try to enter a new date such as '17', e.g., press the digit '1' and it shows up, then press the digit '7' and it replaces the '1'. It should have changed '18' to '17' right? Now enter the '1' again followed by the '7' and it does become '17'.
On the same transaction I entered a new payee called 'VOIDED' (I wanted to record that I messed up a paper check and trashed it). The payee is then truncated to 'ED' and created as such. When I go into Window, Payees, and search for 'ED' it is there and then I change it to 'VOIDED'. Register now reflects the correction.0 -
Hi Robert, for typing in the date, the behavior is the same as in previous versions. I'm unable to reproduce the issue that you mentioned unless I wait a few seconds between keystrokes. If I type '17' for the day, the date gets entered as '17'. For the other issue with entering a payee as "VOIDED", I'm able to reproduce the issue on my end and will enter a new item to discuss with our developers.0

I agree, if you type fast the date change is accepted. So I guess the question is should you have to be fast keying in two digits in order for it to take? Now that I know this I can live with it. Thanks for your prompt reply.Quicken George said:Hi Robert, for typing in the date, the behavior is the same as in previous versions. Henryth - thanks for the suggestion - I did enter Preferences and found the category name selected as "short" -- changed it to long. I found previously entered transactions still had the category truncated but once I re-entered the category in the longer version it stayed that way rather than truncating again. I don't know why the new version 4.5.4 would change a user's preference settings like that???Maui Kane said:I just installed v. 4.5.4. I'm having the same issue, working on a macbook pro 15" so no numbers pad and takes a little time to find the correct numbers on opposite ends of the row. If we increase the delay in the mouse or keyboard setting would this increase the delay here too?Quicken George said:Hi Robert, for typing in the date, the behavior is the same as in previous versions. Thanks, now my Quicken is broken. Did the update, it asked me for my loan terms, miscalculated my payments, I went back and tried again, now it just locks up when I click on finish.
Scratch that, converted back to a liability, but now whenever I try to download transactions I get a bunch of errors stating that the cloud sync is having problems- except I don't use the cloud, or mobile, or any of that. I just use a local copy on my Mac.
I can't download transactions any more.
How can I roll back to the previous version?0 -
Problems seem so varied and numerous -- are users being used as beta testers for version 4.5.4? Hope not.Maui Kane said:I just installed v. 4.5.4. I have a minor annoyance to report. Upon quitting Quicken (4.5.4), the window appears telling me that Quicken is backing up my data file. That's cool, and better than before, when there was no indicator, and it seemed that Quicken was just taking for-ev-er to quit.
The problem I'm having is that the backup notification window stays on top, and cannot be hidden. I cannot use another application, because this window doesn't move to the background or otherwise get out of the way.0 -
That's been the model since about Quicken 2013 on the Windows side. Release a bug filled, untested version, spend the next 8 months trying to stomp out bugs, then give up and promise to fix bugs in the next release. Repeat ad infinitum. This started under Intuit and seems it has continued under new ownership. That's why I run QW 2012 in a VM on my MAC.Maui Kane said:I just installed v. 4.5.4. Thanks for the feedback. I agree that the backup screen shouldn't appear above all other apps.Schlappette said:I have a minor annoyance to report. There is nothing in this release to change customer preferences. Not sure why it happened on Maui Kane's Mac. Are others seeing this preference changed?Maui Kane said:I just installed v. 4.5.4.
